Imagine walking through narrow cobble stone streets filled with tiny stores and blue railings with flowers growing everywhere. This is the perfect image of Mykonos! Mykonos is an island in the Cyclades group that is located in the Aegean Sea. Mykonos is known for having some of the most beautiful beaches as well as a town that you can spend lots of time exploring. Mykonos is also known as being a party island, it has many different club-like atomospheres. The famous windmills are also located on this island. If you are planning a trip to Greece I would highly suggest staying in Mykonos for a few days if you are looking for a nice place to relax but somewhere that also has some action. Mykonos has lots to offer from its very chill beaches to the many dance clubs located all over the island. Most of your days will probably be spent either lounging by the pools and beaches or exploring Chora.
Here are some of my favorite spots in Mykonos:
1. Chora, the main town square area! Chora has the most perfect picturesque streets filled with bright pink bougainvillea. The town has many different stores with varying things such as souvenirs, clothing, shoes, and so much more. I went into one of the first stores in the town and got the cutest Greek-styled coverup dress. The restaurants along the town have some delicious Greek food!
2. The Windmills! Mykonos is known for its famous windmills. The windmills are walking distance from the town of Chora and are a very historical part of Mykonos. The windmills are located right along the water and make for a stunning photograph.
3. Fokos beach! Fokos beach is a little difficult to get to because you have to drive down a windy cliff but once you get there the beach is beautiful. The water is so clear you can see your feet right through it. This beach is perfect for laying out and tanning as well as swimming in the ocean. If you get hungry, you can walk to the Fokos Taverna.
4. Agios Beach! This beach is near a few different tavernas and also has clear blue water that is perfect for swimming. You can pay to get chairs for the day if you would like to. If you go in the morning, you might even catch the man selling huge sugar donuts for only two euro. It is funny how they sell you donuts right on the beach!
5. If you are looking for a huge party beach try going to Paradise Beach! This beach is known for its crazy atmosphere and all of the partying.
6. Lia Beach! I would recommend coming here if you are looking for more of a club atmosphere. This beach has a restaurant that has a DJ playing louder music. They also provide you with chairs as well as umbrellas if you would like. This beach has more of a Miami feel so I would only come here if that is the kind of atmosphere you want for the day.
7. Make sure to check out all of the delicious bakeries along the island. We loved the bakery called Mykonos Bakery located right in Ornos. They had a wide selection of different treats. There are bakeries located on almost every corner so I would recommend trying a new place each day!
The island of Mykonos has so many amazing activities to do and really is one of the top destinations spots. Walking through the town of Chora feels like you are walking through a painting. Mykonos exceeded all my expectations of Greece and I cannot wait to go back and I know I will be going back soon. I hope after reading this post you can add Mykonos to your bucket list of places to visit!
