Sorrento is a coastal town in a beautiful part of southwestern Italy. The location is perfect for day trips to go and visit Capri, Positano, and the Almafi Coastline.

The actual town in Sorrento is very cute and is lined with different shops and restaurants. The town‘s center is always happening at night. The streets are bustling with people. The stores have a lot of tourists souvenirs. My favorite part of Sorrento is the port. The port has a few shops and restaurants and this is also where you can take boats or ferries to islands for the day. The port is filled with boats that come and dock. The best seafood restaurant is called Bar Ruccio and is located right in the Port of Sorrento. While eating there, you feel like you are in an Italian movie. The tables are right along the ocean and you can hear the lapping of the water right below while Italian music plays in the background. It is a family owned restaurant so the father runs the restaurant, his son works as a waiter and his daughter makes the gelato. Their food is divine and you can order fresh caught fish daily. Eating at Bar Ruccio is one of those experiences that you will never forget. It is a bit of a walk down the hill right along the road so I would suggest getting a taxi to drive you down there. The restaurant does have a shuttle service they provide that can come and pick you up from some hotels. I would recommend calling ahead so you can reserve one of the tables right on the edge.

From Sorrento's port you can take some day trips and my favorite one is Capri! Wow, Capri is such a cute island. The best way to get there is go down to the port in Sorrento and take the 20 minute ferry to Capri. Once you are there, you can go shopping, eat lunch, go up to town, or go swimming.

Things to do in Capri

1. Take a private boat! Only the private boats let you get out and swim in different areas. We rented a private boat for 150 euro for two hours. We got to go into the caves, ride all around the island of Capri, and go swimming in the water. You get to tell your boat driver where you would like to go and what you want to spend your time seeing. I would definitely recommend the private boating tour if available because it doesn't cost much more than the public boat tour. The public boat tours can be crowded and they do not let you jump off the boat and go swimming. We rented the boat as soon as we got to Capri so we could cool down before walking around the town.

2. Take the finnicular to the top of town! Their are many nice shops filled with clothing, hats, swimsuits, and souvenirs. Capri is a little more upscale so most things are a little more pricey than in the town of Sorrento. The finniuclar lets you explore the top of the town of Capri.

3. Grab some lunch up at the top of town! We ate at Storante which has an unbelievable view of the water and the city. The pizza is delicious.

4. Get the gelato down by the port when you first come off the ferry and get the triple chocolate it is delicious!

5. Enjoy walking around and go to the beach! The beach on Capri is called Marina Piccola Beach. The beach can get really crowded but it is definitely worth spending time here! The water is absolutely gorgeous.

6. If the beaches are too crowded and you would like to take a dip in the water to cool down here's a tip. The da Gemma Le Ondine Beach Club is a great place to get some food and drinks. While eating, you have a great oceanfront view. From the beach club you can rent some beach chairs and go in the water right there! This spot is very exclusive so it will not be as crowded as the public beaches but you will have to pay a lot for chairs.

7. Blue Grotto! If you want to go and see the sea caves you can take rowboat tours into the Blue Grotto. The seawater illuminates the cavern to have a blue tinted reflection. Some of the boat tours allow you to get into the water in swim in the grotto.

Talk soon!
